The Godfrey Robo-Mower (90k)

"Robo-Mower", Al Godfrey's radio-controlled GE Electrac. Al converted this GE E12 Electrac to R/C using a Futaba 5-channel model airplane R/C unit. The Futaba provides reliable control over a distance of up to 500-750 feet. Al added a 4.3GHz video link (to the living room TV) so an on-board video camera could be used to permit more precise control over the lawn mowing from a distance. The stock 5hp permanent magnet motor is powered by 3 Optima prototype Group 31 yellow-tops (YT31s) via a Curtis controller and mows Al's 1/2 acre on about 25% of a charge. Power is not a problem; Al has used Robo-Mower to pull small stumps!
